Salt Lake City native to assist local building safety efforts

Salt Lake City resident Justin Wiley has been named Government Relations Regional Manager for the International Code Council Utah Field Office. He will work with state and local government officials and other interested parties in the construction industry to create safer communities. His region includes Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

Previously Wiley worked as council advisor for the Salt Lake County (Utah) Council, which is responsible for the appropriation and oversight of public funds and creating local law for more than 150,000 residents. He was a principal in a consulting firm specializing in political development, lobbying, issue advocacy and government relations.

“Having a knowledgeable resource available is extremely beneficial to government officials and others working to achieve the highest level of building safety in their communities,” said International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland. “Justin has hands-on experience in government and understands how to navigate the political process.”

Wiley has a Master of Business Administration Management from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, and a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University. He served as a board member for the National Conference for Community and Justice, a field director and volunteer coordinator for a Salt Lake City mayoral campaign, and interned for several senators in the Utah State Senate.

The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council.
