I-Codes Take Center Stage at International Energy Summit

The 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) was a major attraction at the World Future Energy Summit held in January in Abu Dhabi. Many heads of states were among the more than 23,000 people from 130 countries who attended the summit, according to a leading Abu Dhabi newspaper.

The International Code Council was well represented in the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) booth where the 2009 IECC was prominently displayed as the center piece of the exhibit display on a revolving pedestal. Other 2009 I-Codes also were on a display introducing visitors from around the world to the entire I-Code family.

Representing the Code Council at the DMA booth were Imad Yahya Eldurubi, James A. Martin, and Roy T. Elliott, Code Council Project Managers for the Abu Dhabi Code Adoption Project; Rick Okawa, Deputy Vice President of ICC Global Services; and Hamid Naderi, ICC Deputy Senior Vice President of Business and Product Development. DMA Undersecretary His Excellency Ahmed Al Shareef greeted visitors at the booth along with Ali Bukair, Consultant Policies and Regulations.

The World Future Energy Summit was inaugurated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces. Political leaders, CEOs, academic experts and members of the Young Future Energy Leaders program from around the world attended the opening session and heard speeches delivered by H.E. President Karolos Papoulias, President of Greece; H.E. Mohamed Nasheed, President of the Maldives; H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister, Turkey; H.E. the Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister, Malaysia; H.R.H The Crown Prince Felipe de Borbón y Grecia, Crown Prince of Spain and Prince of Asturias; H.R.H The Crown Prince Frederik André Henrik Christian, Denmark; and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chief Executive Officer, Masdar.
