Overview
The Code Official Institute provides code officials an opportunity to learn the critical skills needed to become an exceptional code official. The institute will enhance communication, personnel, and financial management skills and assist in remaining current on issues concerning the legal and ethical aspects of the code administration. Additionally, the institute will provide the opportunity to learn up-to-date information required for the Legal and Management Modules of the ICC Certified Building Official examination.
Continuing Education
Attend this ICC institute and earn ICC CEUs, AIA Learning
Units (LUs) and Health Safety and Welfare credit (HSW)*.
While this ICC Symposium does not specifically prepare individuals
for an ICC certification examination, it does serve as an
excellent opportunity to earn CEUs towards renewing any ICC
Certification or preparation for career advancement.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be received in writing in
order to receive a refund. Refunds are subject to a processing
fee. There will be NO REFUNDS for cancellations received one
calendar week prior to the scheduled symposium.

Instructors
Linda S. Pieczynski, Attorney
Linda S. Pieczynski is an Attorney engaged in the general practice of law, with a special emphasis on municipal prosecution in the areas of zoning and building code violations. Previously, she worked for the state´s attorney in DuPage County, Illinois, where her responsibilities included conducting seminars for law enforcement agencies. She currently represents numerous municipalities as their village prosecutor. She is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and a member of the Illinois Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association and DuPage Association of Women Lawyers. She has written several books and has published articles on various legal topics. Additionally, she rewrote the Legal Aspects of Code Administration textbook published by BOCA, ICBO, and SBCCI.
James T. Ryan, C.B.O. Serves as a Board Member for the ICC and is the Codes Administrator for the City of Overland Park, Kansas, the second largest city in the state. Tim has been employed by the City of Overland Park since 1978. He has served in the Building Inspection section, Plan Review section and has been the Codes Administrator since 1997. As Codes Administrator he is in charge of the Building Safety Division which is responsible for the administration and enforcement of all construction, fire safety and interior property maintenance codes. Tim graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelors Degree in Construction Technology and Management. He is a certified Building Official and currently holds 15 separate certifications with ICC. Tim has served on the ICC Board of Directors since 1999. He also served on the BOCA Board of Directors for 10 years, including a term as the 54th President of that organization. He has served on numerous code development, technical ad-hoc, administrative and specialized committees for both the legacy code groups and for ICC. He is a seasoned instructor and speaker on a wide range of topics including Existing Buildings, Legal Aspects, Means of Egress and Accessibility.
Ronald L. Lynn Ron is the Building Official of Clark County Department of Development Services, Building Division. Ron has published over 30 papers and articles on topics ranging from materials to quality control and conducted editorial review of the 1995 Portland Cement Association Inspector’s Manual. He is an experienced instructor and seminar speaker on a variety of topics at a local community college and for ICC.
Ron is currently on the ICC Board of Directors and has served as a local officer for the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Nondestructive Testing, American Welding Society, Geology Society of America, National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials, and the Southern Nevada chapter of ICC. He is also the current chairman of the Nevada Earthquake Safety Council and of the Nevada Organization of Building Officials.
