Instructors
John M. Gibson, Jr.
John M. Gibson, Jr., M.C.P., C.B.O., C.P.C.A., C.F.I. is a Technical Advisor and Instructor for the International Code Council (ICC). A certified Master Code Professional, he has forty (40) other certifications, including thirty- three (33) from the ICC. Having earned a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Delaware, he has also studied Architecture at Georgia Tech and completed courses in Emergency Management and Fire Prevention at the National Emergency Training Center.
Formerly the Director of the Department of Permits and Inspections for Frederick County Maryland, he has served on the Board of Directors for BOCA International, Inc., the ICC- Evaluations Services (ICC- ES) Board of Directors, the ICC Code Correlating Committee, Maryland’s Governor’s Smart Code Strategy Group, Chaired the ICC Board for International Professional Standards and is a Past President of the Maryland Building Officials Association.
He currently teaches administrative, building code and residential code courses and is an online instructor for Red Rocks Community College, Lakewood CO.
Jerry Flanik
Gerald C. Flanik is an ICC-Certified Building Official, LEED Accredited Professional and holds Ohio certifications as Building Official, Electrical Plans Examiner, Building Inspector, Electrical Safety Inspector and Licensed by the Division of State Fire Marshal for fire protection systems.
Mr. Flanik currently serves as the Chief Building Official for the County of Lake, State of Ohio Building Department. His career started with Pipe Fitters Local 120 in Cleveland, Ohio where he has been a member for over 25 years. Mr. Flanik holds a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and is a faculty instructor for Lakeland College in the Civil Engineering Department. Jerry teaches multi-disciplinary courses for the International Code Council, Ohio Building Officials Association and the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards for continuing education of code enforcement personnel.
He teaches structural and non-structural IBC, all IRC, IMC, IFGC, IECC, IPC; accessibility, Green Building, and legal aspects of codes and administrative topics.
