Description:
Discusses certification renewal for special inspectors. Identifies and explains ICC´s five special inspector certification categories: Reinforced Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Structural Masonry, Structural steel and Welding and Spray-applied Fireproofing.

Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be better able to:

  • Describe the certification renewal process.
  • Apply for certification renewal.
  • Identify appropriate CEU requirements for certification.
  • Determine codes and standards sections needed for Reinforced Concrete inspection.
  • Determine codes and standards sections needed for Prestressed Concrete inspection.
  • Determine codes and standards sections needed for Structural Masonry inspection.
  • Determine codes and standards sections needed for Structural Steel and Welding inspection.
  • Determine codes and standards sections needed for Spray-applied Fireproofing inspection.

Instructor
Gerald Neville, P.E., is a code consultant and instructs training programs on the International Building Code. Jerry was a Senior Staff Engineer in ICC’s Architectural and Engineering Services, his duties included developing and delivering seminars focused on structural engineering, field technology and inspection practices of building materials. Mr. Neville also participated in development and maintenance activities for ICC Special Inspector Certification Examinations and served as staff liaison on several of those examination development committees. He has represented the concrete industry in the development of model codes and national regulatory documents related to concrete.

Mr. Neville received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin and has more than 30 years of experience in the area of code development, application of structural provisions of the codes and in the development of related national standards.
