California Building Code and Federal Accessibility Requirements
Objectives
Upon completion of this seminar, you will be better able to:
- Provides the tools necessary to identify and apply the appropriate accessibility provisions for California Building Code users
- Discuss the differences, and similarities, between Federal and State laws will provide participants a basis for the proper application of the various mandates behind accessibility provisions in the state of California
Instructors
Daniel F. Kaiser, CBO
Dan Kaiser, a retired Building Official, is currently an owner of a private consulting firm specializing in Disabled Access compliance and Training and Education. Over his career in public service he has served as a Department Director, Chief Building Official, Supervising Building Inspector, Combination Building Inspector, and Codes Enforcement Officer for various jurisdictions throughout Southern California. He is currently a Commissioner on the California Building Officials Training Institute (C.T.I.), responsible for the statewide training needs in the state of California. Dan also serves as the Chair of the California Building Officials Emergency Preparedness and Response Committee. Dan currently holds 24 various certifications from a variety of organizations such as ICC, IAPMO, IFCI, NFPA, ACIA, AIA and the State of California. Dan teaches a myriad of courses including technical and non-technical inspection technology related courses; disabled access, disaster response, and emergency operations center operations protocol, property maintenance, building codes, and building department administration.
Kimberly Paarlberg, R.A.
Kimberly Paarlberg is a Senior Staff Architect in Technical Services with ICC at the Chicago Regional office. Her experience with ICC includes work in the plan review and code development departments with responsibilities for code development, conducting plan reviews, providing code interpretations, instructing technical seminars and authoring and reviewing instruction materials and code commentary. Kimberly serves as code development secretary for the Means of Egress/Accessibility committee. She is ICC representative for development of the referenced technical standard, ICC/ANSI A117.1 “Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities.” Kim also works on the development committee for the ASME 24 “Flood Resistant Design and Construction.”
Before joining ICC, Kimberly worked as a structural engineer and architect, is licensed architect in Illinois and holds an Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner certification. Kimberly attended the University of Illinois and received a Master of Architecture degree with a structural engineering option. She is a past member and co-chair of the Illinois Steering Committee for the Great Lakes DBTAC (Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers) which facilitates dispersal of information and technical assistance for ADA and ADAAG. She is a member of the Illinois Building Commission Accessibility Subcommittee and the U.S. Access Board Courthouse Access Advisory Committee.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be received in writing in order to receive a refund. Refunds are subject to a processing fee. There will be NO REFUNDS for cancellations received one calendar week prior to the scheduled training event.
International Code Council reserves the right to cancel any training event having insufficient registrations. If that occurs, all prepaid fees will be refunded in full. International Code Council cannot be responsible for any losses resulting from the cancellation of a training event. |
