The Past Presiding Officers of the International Code Council will host the Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing on September 11, 2022 at the Heritage Hills Golf Club during the ICC Annual Conference.

Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum (Full Day)

Experience the rich history of Churchill Downs Racetrack and learn about legendary Derby winners like Aristides and Secretariat as you visit the famous Paddock and Grandstand. You’ll make a stop railside at the track while your Guide shares stories of the early days of the Kentucky Derby through its transformation into the iconic event it is today. Churchill Downs spans 147 acres with its most significant structure being the Twin Spires, an architectural feature which sits atop the grandstand and has become the universally recognized symbol for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. Over time, the racetrack continued to grow and modernize by adding new barns, seating, and sprinkler systems. Other renovation projects include - Paddock construction, clubhouse and barn improvements, and construction of the Matt Winn Turf Course. Further updating includes the addition of luxury suites, expansions and a new grand entrance.

With two floors of interactive, family friendly exhibits, the Kentucky Derby Museum takes visitors through every stage of a Thoroughbred’s life, from birth to the First Saturday in May. Learn about all the great history of the race dating back to the inaugural running in 1875 to our most recent Kentucky Derby champion and experience all the traditions that have transformed the race into what it is today. Buffet Lunch is included.

Belle of Louisville River Boat Tour (Half Day)

This narrated sightseeing cruise on the Mary M. Miller will cruise up the Ohio River. Learn about the founding of Louisville, hear about the history and importance of steamboats on the Ohio River and much more. Discover interesting facts about architecture and design along the way.

A $10 concession voucher as well as unlimited soda/water will be provided. Lunch will not be provided.

Water Reuse Working Group: Preparing Our Buildings and Communities for Water Reuse in the 21st Century

The Code Council is establishing a Water Reuse Working Group of code development leaders and reuse experts to, in partnership with the NBRC, explore opportunities to protect public health and to better support state, local, tribal, and territorial governments seeking to advance water reuse opportunities through integration of best practices into the I-Codes that govern water quality and additional reuse issues. This world-famous tour now begins with a thrilling movie that transports you to the forests and mills where every Louisville Slugger bat begins. Overview of ICC Code Development Process & Introduction to Public Comment Hearings

This short educational session is designed for those new to the ICC code development process, including global attendees at the conference. Instructors Shirley Ellis and Eirene Knott will provide a general overview of the process followed to update the I-Codes every three years, review the differences between codes and standards, and prepare attendees to observe and participate in the Public Comment Hearings that will begin at 1 pm.

The Public Comment Hearings provide an opportunity for participants to influence the 2024 I‑Codes, the most widely used and adopted set of building safety codes in the world. At the hearings, Governmental Member Voting Representatives vote on hundreds of proposed code changes on behalf of their respective jurisdictions.

Experience the rich history of Churchill Downs Racetrack and learn about legendary Derby winners like Aristides and Secretariat as you visit the famous Paddock and Grandstand. You’ll make a stop railside at the track while your Guide shares stories of the early days of the Kentucky Derby through its transformation into the iconic event it is today. Churchill Downs spans 150 acres with 51 horse barns and stadium and dining seating for almost 55,000 people. Its most significant structure is the Twin Spires, an architectural feature originally constructed in 1875, which sits atop the grandstand and has become the universally recognized symbol for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.

Over time, the racetrack continued to grow and modernize by adding new barns, seating, and sprinkler systems. Other renovation projects include – clubhouse and barn improvements, and construction of the Matt Winn Turf Course and the addition of luxury suites, expansions and a new grand entrance. During our visit there will be two active new construction projects in progress. One is the Turn One addition and the other is a reconstructed and expanded paddock project. These provide significant challenges with a combination of code requirements from the IBC and the IEBC.

Kentucky Derby Museum and Hermitage Farm Tour with lunch

No trip to Louisville would be complete without a tour of Churchill Downs, the “Home of the Kentucky Derby”. At the Kentucky Derby Museum, you will experience all the sights and sounds of the Kentucky Derby as you watch the 360 Degree panoramic presentation. “The Greatest Race”. On the outside track tour, you will hear the facts and folklore that make the Kentucky Derby the greatest two minutes in sports.Churchill Downs

Enjoy a unique experience with the Kentucky Derby Museum’s team of curators as they take you though an up close and personal journey through Thoroughbred racing history using rare artifacts not currently on display to the general public. Hear the sorties and history behind each item and have the opportunity to ask your questions.

Hermitage FarmsAfter lunch, you will visit Hermitage Farm, which is a 19th century estate which has been reimagined through 21st century eyes. The nearly 700 acres have been placed in a conservation easement so that it remains active farmland in perpetuity. Along with sustainable, organic agricultural practices, Hermitage Farm has a renowned thoroughbred operation. During the tour you will experience the inner workings of a fully operational thoroughbred horse farm and the farm’s history in the equine industry. You will see historic and competition carriages on display and meet the highly trained horses who pull them in competition. Please note the tour includes approximately 0.5 miles of walking.
