Welcome to the Innovation in Code Administration Best Practices web page. The purpose is to maximize the benefit of shared resources, concepts and programs, to learn from what other building departments are doing well, so that building departments everywhere can have access to new and innovative approaches to delivering code administration services as part of their overall approach to Community Risk Reduction.

The documents listed below describe some of the notable practices of building departments from across the country (and around the world?) culled from entries submitted for our annual Innovation in Code Administration awards program. Though they did not win the award, the programs described contain useful ideas from which other building departments can benefit.

If you submit an entry for the Innovation in Code Administration Award, your best practice will be considered for inclusion in this resource.  Submissions for the 2021 Award will be accepted until June 30, 2021. However, nominations are open on a continuous basis and applications may be submitted at any time.

This is a great example of code officials helping one another improve without reinventing the wheel. This synergy will help each of us to better serve our community and our customers, while potentially saving money.
