ICC Teams with NCSEA and SEI
on New Guide for Structural Loads

Structural LoadsStructural Loads: 2012 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-10, a new publication from the International Code Council (ICC), is exclusively devoted to the determination of structural loads. Critical provisions for structural loads are organized in comprehensive flowcharts that guide readers through the load requirements. The book includes numerous design examples and a complete Solutions Manual as an online bonus. It is released with the cooperation of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).
“The proper determination of various loads to apply to a given structure is of critical importance to its proper analysis, design and detailing,” said NCSEA President Ben Nelson, P.E., SECB. “Even the most sophisticated analysis model is of little value without a thorough understanding of correct loading. Structural Loads: 2012 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-10 walks the designer through the analysis process effectively and thoroughly.”
The book’s author, David A. Fanella, Ph.D., S.E., P.E. and FASCE, is a practicing structural engineer, a visiting lecturer at the University of Illinois, an active member of the ASCE/SEI 7 Standard Committee, and a widely respected expert. Dr. Fanella’s clear, concise writing emphasizes practical applications encountered daily by structural designers.
“Both ASCE 7 and the International Building Code have such significant impacts in structural design that well-written resources such as Dave Fanella’s new book to assist designers are always welcome in the market,” said SEI Director Jennifer Goupil, P.E.
Structural Loads: 2012 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-10 is available for purchase in hardcopy for $65 ($52 for ICC Members, Product Item #4034S12) directly from the ICC Store. This publication is also available from ASCE.
The International Code Council  is a member-focused association dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes.
