ASPE Tech Symposium to be held in Pittsburgh

September 30th, 2019

  • Quick Hits

A popular networking and educational event for plumbing engineers, the ASPE Technical Symposium 2019 will be held Oct. 24–27, 2019, in Pittsburgh, Pa., where hundreds of plumbing engineers, designers, specifiers and contractors will gather to mingle with and learn from their peers. The International Code Council — a global leader in developing plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas codes and standards using both prescriptive and performance-related provisions to protect building occupants and the public — has been an active, supporting partner and sponsor of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) since 2010. This year, the Code Council is a gold sponsor of the symposium and PMG Resources Director Jim Cika will be presenting on updates to the 2021 International Plumbing Code.

This year’s Tech Symposium features technical education sessions designed to help plumbing industry professionals at all career levels learn new skills or refresh their design repertoire. Five distinct tracks — Codes & Standards; System Design & Equipment Exploration; Sustainability/Construction Discussion; Legionella/Water Quality; and Fire Protection, Life Safety & More — offer opportunities to engage with experts, make new peer connections and earn continuing education units that can be used for license and certification continuing education requirements.

Dedicated to promoting the plumbing engineering profession to increase career opportunities for its members as well as protecting the health of people around the world through the delivery of safe, sustainable drinking water and sanitation systems, ASPE has been a great supporter of both the Code Council and the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) PMG division. [Originally, PMG stood for Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas, but with the release of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code in 2012, it has expanded to include pools and spas.] In 2016, ICC-ES PMG — experts in plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas products — exhibited at the ASPE Expo and Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., and received an award from ASPE in recognition for its continued support, sponsorship and contributions over the years.

Addressing the global sanitation crisis, innovative toilet design, and codes and provisions to plumbing engineering solutions, the first-ever 2010 World Toilet Summit was held by the Code Council in conjunction with the ASPE Annual Conference. The summit hosted a diverse group of attendees, including industry professionals representing business and volunteer organizations alike from five continents, and provided an opportunity for international delegates and ASPE’s core member base of plumbing engineers and other construction industry-related professionals to meet and plan for future business collaborations.

“Through our modern plumbing codes, the Code Council works to ensure that people around the globe have access to safe water through proper construction, conservation and safe disposal,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “The Code Council is pleased to sponsor ASPE’s Technical Symposium and its important work educating and promoting plumbing engineering professionals and protecting people through the delivery of safe, sustainable drinking water and sanitation systems.”

The Code Council advances plumbing safety through its commitment to developing modern codes and standards that make water systems more efficient and sustainable and help ensure that clean, safe water is available in all homes and buildings. In addition to the International Plumbing Code, the Code Council also publishes the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code and International Private Sewage Disposal Code, all of which are founded on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and new plumbing designs. The Code Council also works to build a well-trained workforce of code officials and plumbing professionals to maintain these systems.
