Expert contributors are one of the most important assets of the International Code Council. The time and expertise of many individuals has helped shape the Code Council into the world-class membership association that it is today. The Code Council is currently seeking subject matter experts and trainers to share their code knowledge and expertise in the plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas fields (PMG) — specifically for the International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) — to develop new technical training content for instruction purposes, including on-site instruction, online webinars and virtual classroom venues; repurpose existing technical content for related training courses; customize and/or integrate state-specific content, and to provide classroom training or webinar instruction. The Code Council’s aim is to ensure that quality training is available to meet the needs of all members, customers and certification holders.

Subject matter experts play an important role in the development of educational and training materials because they possess proficiency in chosen fields and can guide other professionals on the project to ensure the content is accurate. In particular, the Code Council is seeking subject matter experts that have experience with both the IPC and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) to help develop training for those jurisdictions transitioning from the UPC to the IPC.

While some individuals may be able to fill the role of both developing technical training content and providing classroom or webinar training, respondents should indicate which service(s) they are qualified for and provide additional information that demonstrates their qualifications. Individuals should possess ICC certification as a commercial/residential plans examiner or a commercial/residential inspector in one or more of the codes, or should be licensed plumbing and mechanical design professionals, or licensed master or journeyman plumbers. Individuals interested in training should also have previous experience as a classroom instructor of the IPC, IMC, IFGC and ISPSC to varied audiences, including code officials, contractors and design professionals. Individuals interested in creating training content should possess previous technical writing experience regarding or interpreting International Codes developed for state/local code development, trade magazines, national associations, or for federal, state and local governments. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English and Arabic/English) in addition to familiarity with multiple model codes are highly desirable.

The Code Council relies on the expertise of industry experts, trainers and educators to help develop the world-class content that many code professionals rely on every day. Share your knowledge and expertise with your peers. Click here to apply to be a subject matter expert or trainer.
