An Ode to Building Safety Month 2024
Jack Roberts, Inspector Field Supervisor for the City of Phoenix, has put together a poem honoring the 2024 Building Safety Month
Jack Roberts is the Site Development Supervisor for the City of Phoenix, Ariz., where he has been working for almost 20 years.
Since he was a child, Roberts has enjoyed writing poetry, most likely picking up the talent from his father who creates birthday cards for his family each year including poems he writes.
Inspired by Building Safety Month, Roberts wrote a poem underscoring the significance of this celebration and the importance of building safety.
Once again the time has come, to make you all aware
That May is Building Safety Month, and we’re ready to declare
The Code Council will be our guide, “Mission-Possible” the theme
Each week a different topic will, be shared from their great team
May 1st is when we kick it off, so the first thing we will say
Is building safety concerns you too, and affects you every day
The workers in our industry, ensure the code is met
But we all share a part in this, so we must not forget
The places that we live, are important to us all
And reminding how to keep them safe, is crucial to recall
That’s why Building Safety Month, was started long ago
To educate and teach the world, the safety tips we know
Week 2 is when we share with you, resources that you need
To gather helpful safety tips, and brochures you can read
You never know when danger strikes, but one thing is for sure
If you prepare ahead of time, your house will be secure
To make sure homes are safely built, is not only what we do
But we also plan for the unforeseen, and share those thoughts with you
The air that we all breathe each day, the water that we drink
We must sustain for tomorrow’s world, to them we all must think
Week 3 we focus on and bring, the professionals in view
To make this world a safer place, by the work that they all do
The planning team, development, site and zoning too
The inspector in the field and those, who do the plan review
They make sure the building’s safe, and constructed to the code
So give them all a great big hand and our gratitude bestowed
If you would like to work with us, and join our cause today
Get certified with the Code Council, and they will guide the way
Week 4 is all about how you, in your city can assist
And share the need for building codes and why they do exist
Volunteer some time today, by showing those to come
How working towards our safety goals, could save the lives of some
Your kids can even get involved, and help our safety team
Visit the kid’s corner page, and let them share the dream
Week 5 is when we can applaud, and start to celebrate
And recognize the things we do, and the folks who make it great
Those who work around this globe, make a difference every day
And the Code Council will highlight them, and their successes will display
We also want to give a shout, and share with all our peers
That the Code Council has led the way, celebrating 30 years
So don’t just let this month go by, without taking time to see
That Building Safety Month is here and it’s all for you and me
