Due to the rapidly evolving situation related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Building Safety Conference of New Jersey and the Code Council Leadership Week on April 28-May 1, 2020, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, have been canceled.

The Building Safety Conference of New Jersey and the International Code Council apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Your health and wellness is extremely important to us, and we believe this course of action is necessary given the current outbreak.

The Building Safety Conference of NJ is exploring a possible rescheduling for the traditional conference in the fall. More details to be released as they become available. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I invite you to attend a special Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) roundtable discussion entitled Mitigating Water Leaks in Premise Plumbing Systems.
The PMG roundtable discussion takes place the day before the Committee Action Hearings begin and will feature plumbing industry experts discussing water leak prevention solutions in the following systems:
  • Sanitary Drainage, Indirect Waste, and Storm Drainage
  • Water Supply & Distribution, Fixtures, Appliances, and Solar
  • Landscape Irrigation and Rainwater Harvesting

If you plan to participate in the Committee Action Hearings, I encourage you to arrive a day early to attend this exciting Code Council event. The date and location for the roundtable are:

2019 CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
Please join us in sharing your expertise at the 2019 International Code Council Annual Conference Education Program in Las Vegas, Nevada October 20–23, 2019! The Code Council is seeking presentation proposals for our Annual Conference Education Sessions and the Building Safety & Design Expo.
All presentation topics should focus on providing educational and technical information. Education Sessions of the ABM should focus on basic or specialized provisions in the I-Codes, including but not limited to fire/life safety, plumbing and mechanical topics and/or leading-edge innovations in the building industry. Presentations should help to educate attendees about building code compliance, building safety, leadership and/or building technology.
The deadline for application submission is THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2019.
ABOUT YOUR SUBMISSION:
You will need to submit the following content at the time of your submission in order to be considered for the 2019 event:
  • A draft of the presentation with speaker notes
  • A timed outline
  • Presenter resume(s)
A final presentation will be due no later than FRIDAY, MAY 10, 2019.
*Note: Marketing and/or sales presentations by individuals or companies designed to promote specific products or services will not be accepted.
We appreciate the commitment and volunteerism it takes to prepare an exceptional educational presentation, so presenters whose presentation applications are accepted will receive $100 off the cost of a full registration to the ICC Annual Conference. All travel expenses must be paid by the presenter. Below are critical dates and information for this event:

The International Code Council honored several individuals for their contributions to safety and resiliency in the built environment during the Members Luncheon at the Annual Conference. Christine Rose, deputy building official for the city of Fargo, N.D., received the Gerald H. Jones Code Official of the Year Award.
Fire Chief Tonya Hoover, superintendent of the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy, was presented the ICC Fire Service Award. Colorado Code Consulting received the ICC Educator of the Year Award. The new Excellence in Public Safety Award was given to Frank Bush, general manager and superintendent of building for the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.

Ron Burton was posthumously presented the prestigious Bobby J. Fowler Award during the Annual Banquet at ICC’s 2018 Annual Conference in Richmond, Va. The Fowler Award honors the memory of the first chairman of the ICC Board of Directors and is presented to individuals whose contributions to the building safety industry advance a safer built environment.

International Code Council voting members elected board officers and directors during the association’s Annual Business Meeting at the 2018 Annual Conference in Richmond, Va. Bill Bryant, MCP, CBO, assistant director of the Inspections and Permits Department of Anne Arundel County, Md., was elected president. Greg Wheeler, chief building official, city of Thornton, Colo., was elected vice president. Cindy Davis, CBO, deputy director of the Division of Building & Fire
Regulations for the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Voting members also elected representatives to sectional and at-large positions on the board.

The Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing was the fourth fundraising event of the Past Presiding Officers and celebrates the life and work of renowned code expert William Ronald “Ron” Burton. The tourney included a 50/50 drawing, prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin, a hole-in-one contest, a golf ball launching contest, and gifts for all participants.

The 14th Annual Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride was held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21, prior to the start of the Code Council’s 2018 Annual Conference. Riders enjoyed the many wonderful sights of Virginia and the magnificent scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains on their way to historic Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, America’s first permanent English colony, in Virginia in 1607.

The ICC host chapters welcomed conference attendees to Richmond’s newly renovated Richmond Train Shed located at historic Main Street Station during the Welcome to Richmond Reception. Attendees were greeted by Patrick Henry, George Washington and others and sampled a variety of famous Virginia fare and beverages all while enjoying the rocking sounds of the Deloreans.
