Dedicated to advancing the art, science and business of housing, PCBC is the largest homebuilding tradeshow representing the west coast region.

Launched in 1959 as a small educational conference at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco, PCBC is now an annual two-day conference, product display and business exchange and is open to anyone professionally involved in the building industry, including builders, developers, architects, remodelers, designers, contractors, dealers/distributors and suppliers/manufacturers.

In the past, PCBC was an acronym for “Pacific Coast Builders Conference”.  Over time the name became an inaccurate reflection of the audience, as the show now draws attendees from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and more than 25 other countries.  Today the show is known simply as PCBC.

A Complimentary, Multi-Topic Training Event (0.5 CEUs)
July 17 | Hyatt Regency Hotel Sacramento
ICC Members are invited to reserve their seat today for a complimentary July 17 event that will address topics of particular interest to California building and code professionals. This forum is being held exclusively for ICC Members who are interested in deepening their knowledge of the 2016 California Building Standards Code, Title 24. Each dynamic and informative session will be an opportunity to deepen your understanding on a key topic or issue, get answers to specific code questions, engage with colleagues and receive a Certificate of Completion for this day of training worth 0.5 CEUs – no partial day certificates will be issued.
Although there is no registration fee, space for this event is limited to the first 130 registrants. Reserve your seat early to ensure your seat at the table for discussions that will include the code requirements for marijuana facilities, tiny homes, cross-laminated timber (CLT), as well as a member forum and open discussion.
Lunch and refreshments will be included
What will be covered?
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the training will begin at 9 a.m.
SESSION 1: Tiny Homes
1 Hour
This engaging presentation will address types and features of tiny homes and the pros and cons of upcoming tiny home code provisions. Tiny Homes have been gaining popularity in recent years and are believed by many to be complimentary to sustainability, green and environmental protection initiatives as well as compatible with downsizing and more financial freedom. Certain elements, components and spaces within tiny homes however, do not comply with the California Residential Code (CRC). The Membership of the ICC has now approved an appendix in the 2018 IRC that will address tiny home provisions and will be applicable if specifically adopted.
SESSION 2: Mass Timber in the California Building Code
1 Hour
There has been a surge of interest to utilize cross laminated timber (CLT) – now incorporated in the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) and the 2015 National Design Specification® (NDS®) for wood construction.
CLT is now included in the 2016 California Building Code (CBC) and is an option for use wherever heavy timber construction is approved for various types of construction in the CBC, for interior building elements in Type III construction, or for any building element in Type V construction.
This presentation explores the use of CLT with focus on what mass timber is and how it is used in the current code. A brief overview of fire resistance, structural properties, current status of seismic design criteria, along with examples of projects either built or currently under construction will be presented along with clarifications provided by approved updates coming in the 2018 IBC and 2018 NDS.
SESSION 3: Membership Forum
1 Hour
Engage with your peers, Code Council Board members and executive staff during a candid discussion of membership programs, services, initiatives, innovations, and more. This is the third stop of the Members Forum Roadshow, the final stop will be at the Annual Conference in Columbus, OH!
SESSION 4: Marijuana Facilities and the Building Code
1.5 Hours
If you have questions about how the passing of California Proposition 64, legalizing the recreational use of marijuana, affects the use, occupancy classification, egress, or hazard classification of buildings, this presentation is a must-attend event.
Be better able to identify the sections of the 2016 California Building Standards Code, Title 24, that are most relevant to marijuana facilities and the correct and effective application after you attend this seminar.
Remember – this complimentary event is being offered as an exclusive ICC Member benefit, but space is limited to the first 130 registrants. Register today to lock in your plans.
