As the trade association for manufacturers of vinyl and other polymeric siding and suppliers to the industry, the Vinyl Siding Industry (VSI) is committed to helping develop material, product, and performance standards by working through standards-making organizations and code bodies, and sponsoring a certification program that improves the quality of siding. As such, we are considering adding a VSI Product Certification Report that would provide direct documentation of compliance of the siding product(s) covered to the ASTM standard appropriate for that type of siding.

Our goal is to enhance the VSI Product Certification Program by publishing VSI Product Certification Report that will hopefully  streamline the process for approving the use of specific siding products in jurisdictions or for a particular building or development. VSI currently sponsors a product certification program that ensures that vinyl siding, insulated siding, and polypropylene siding meet or exceed industry standards. All vinyl siding certified through VSI’s program is verified to meet or exceed ASTM D3679 through twice yearly, unannounced plant inspections, product testing and quality review by Architectural Testing Inc. (ATI), an independent, accredited quality control agency.

The VSI Product Certification Report would include specific information that is essential for use of the siding product under the codes, such as wind load design pressure ratings for both standard and (where applicable) special installation configurations, and other application or installation requirements that are unique to the product. It is our goal to minimize repetition of code requirements that are applicable to all siding in a category, and instead provide the essential information needed to evaluate the specific product for use under the code.

To refine the report, we are asking architects, building officials, and code officials to complete a survey. In thanks, qualified respondents will receive a $10 Amazon e-Gift Card.
