I am taking one of your smileys away and giving it to Brian--he feels badly that he has no stars.

I always found it funny in the NEC that the minimum service (as I recall) is 100 amp for a SFD, but if you have a multiple dwelling unit, you can derate it .. to well.. alot less than that.. (12 unit apartment, and we could have an 800 amp service).. and, well, I''ll keep my fingers shut since there were lots of other exceptions...

Well the problem is this--the structure defines residential (actually a dwelling unit in real code) not the wiring method. So that is the problem. The line (electrical) is not that clear.

thanks...

actually, I don''t inspect electrical anymore, anyway.. was just thinking the little yellow light bulb shows up when some one posts an answer, when it''s either residential or commercial would grab some attention.. (since electrical is really sometimes an issue.. I thought it might be a good idea).. but no one else really thinks so... so... it''s all good.

Non structural, for example is busy enough that most of us check it every day... it''s all good..

I am sure from your point of view, Cindy, it would solve your problems. From mine, It would make a big problem bigger. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Here''s some smileys to replace the stars you have lost.

I think the electrical section of the IRC is just a bad joke based on the NEC. It should have never happened. So here''s to the residential electrical inspectors--Learn the NEC :)because there is really not such a thing as isolated "residential" or "commercial" electrical, no line in the sand.

Sorry -- we already have an Electrical forum, and it''s not overflowing with content. So dividing it up further wouldn''t be a high priority for us.

Sincerely,
ICC Webmaster

Peach....Then I suggest that residential Inspectors study the NEC most or all states have adopted the NEC for all electrical applications.
