Posters should not expect to receive responses from anyone on the Forum or from ICC Moderators.

If the Poster has a paid-type of ICC membership, some paid memberships include many benefits such as unlimited code opinions (interpretations) from ICC’s Technical Staff.  Requests for ICC code interpretations can be made through a number of channels (click here)   This Forum is not one of  indicated channels.

This Forum does not require a paid ICC membership and as such, providing ICC code interpretations on this Forum (for free) would not be fair to the people who have paid for those privileges.

ICC Moderators engage in some of the discussions on this Forum as time and individual knowledge allows them to do so.  We engage primarily to foster deeper thought processes and to direct posters to specific sections of the Codes that might apply in an application. We try not to give answers because we hope that further study of the Codes by Posters will provide most of the answers that are looked for. Ultimately, the code official (or building official) in the local jurisdiction makes the final decision on any inquiry made to them.

From time-to-time, ICC Moderators might post an “official” technical opinion simply to illustrate what an ICC technical opinion might look like and the necessary disclaimer that we are required to include with those opinions.  Perhaps these rarely-posted ICC Technical Opinions will entice a non-paid member to become a paid ICC member that could enjoy the many benefits offered by ICC. ICC believes in providing excellent value for its members. Having the entire ICC Technical Staff at your disposal to answer questions about the Codes for a relatively small annual fee is an ideal way to better understand the Codes.  Click here for ICC Membership information.
