2012/2013 International Code Committees (Updated May 25, 2011)

May 25, 2011 Call Update – Commercial and Residential Energy Committees Only

At the May/2011 Board of Directors meeting, the Board approved changes to the code development processes for the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and the International Residential Code (IRC), effective with the 2012/2013 Code Development Cycle. The 2012 IECC will contain two distinct, separate and comprehensive sections of energy provisions for commercial buildings and low-rise residential buildings. This will include separate provisions that address Scope and Administration; Definitions; General Requirements; and Energy Efficiency. Residential buildings are defined as detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single family dwellings (townhouses), and Group R-2, R-3 and R-4 buildings three stories or less in height above grade. Chapter 11 of the 2012 IRC will include the IECC residential provisions applicable to residential construction that fall under the scope of the IRC.

Two committees will be assigned to maintain the energy provisions of the I-Codes. The current IECC Committee will be assigned responsibility for commercial energy provisions and restructured as the Commercial Energy Code Development Committee. A new Residential Energy Code Development Committee will be created with responsibility for all residential energy provisions in the both the IECC and the IRC.

The IRC – Building & Energy Code Development Committee will also be restructured to only address building related provisions in the IRC (Chapters 1 – 10). The IRC and IECC Codes are still part of the Group B Codes and the respective Code Development Committees will hear the 2013 code change proposals at the 2013 Code Development Hearing during the period of April 21 – 28, 2013.

ICC is receiving applications for members for both the Commercial & Residential Energy Code Development Committees. Click here for an application. The acronym in bold below is to be used to identify the Code Committee (note that page 5 of the application has not been updated to reflect this new energy code committee structure).

2012/2013 International Code Committees

International Code Committees are an instrumental part of the ICC Code Development Process. There are currently 15 Code Committees, responsible for the review and evaluation of code change proposals submitted to the 13 International Codes. The 2012/2013 Cycle is the first cycle which implements the Board of Directors new process which groups the codes into two groups: Group A codes which will be processed in 2012 and Group B codes which will be processed in 2013. Group A Code Committees will hear the 2012 code change proposals at the 2012 Code Development Hearing during the period of April 29 – May 6, 2012. Group B Code Committees will hear the 2013 code change proposals at the 2012 Code Development Hearing during the period of April 21 – 28, 2013.

At this time, ICC is receiving applications for members for both Group A and Group B Code Committees. Code Committee members are considered for appointment by the newly formed Codes and Standards Council with final approval resting with the ICC Board of Directors.  2009/2010 Code Committee members whose term expires December 31, 2011, must reapply to be considered for re-appointment.
