DESCRIPTION:During this seminar\, Ian McFarlane will discuss design of mat foundations and soil-structure interaction. The session will describe the uses of mat foundations\, historical perspectives that have led to the current procedures\, and discuss soil properties and soil-structure interaction. Guidance will be provided for proportioning\, analysis\, and design for mat foundations. Code requirements and accepted approaches to their implementation will also be addressed\, with additional discussion on best practices that go beyond code minimum requirements. Finally\, detailing and constructability tips will be presented.
