SUMMARY:Residential Seismic Assessment and Retrofit Standard Consensus Committee (IS-RSARC)
DESCRIPTION:The purpose for this virtual meeting is for the IS-RSARC committee to discuss the development of the ICC 1300 standard: \nAs an ANSI accredited standard developing organization\, ICC is undertaking a project coordinated with the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and FEMA to develop an ICC Standard for the seismic evaluation and retrofit of one and two family dwellings (including townhouses) designated as ICC 1300\, Standard for the Vulnerability-Based Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of One- and Two-Family Dwellings. \nThe development of the standard will be initiated with FEMA P-1100 as an initial draft. This committee will have primary responsibility for the development of minimum requirements to safeguard the public health\, safety\, general welfare by providing a methodology for the identification\, evaluation and retrofit of specific known vulnerabilities for one- and two-family wood light-frame dwellings up to 2 stories in height located in Seismic Design Categories B through E. This will include the use of the best available seismic numerical modeling tools and engineering practices to assist in development of assessment methods and to identify retrofit criteria to best achieve targeted performance objectives. Use of the provisions is anticipated to improve earthquake performance but is not necessarily intended to prevent earthquake damage. This work affords companies the ability to trade in a wide range of regions and removes the tedious\, lengthy\, and costly process of having to re-test or re-inspect for accreditation in each market. APAC is recognized by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as one of four APEC Specialist Regional Bodies (SRBs) that support the work of the APEC Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance. \nThe APAC meeting provides a common platform for accreditation bodies in the APAC region to discuss policy matters\, harmonize accreditation practices and more importantly\, manage the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRAs). The attendees at this meeting will be the leadership from the accreditation bodies in 38 economies that accredit testing laboratories\, inspection agencies and other companies that impact the safety and quality of products. \nThis will be the first time in 20 years that the APAC Annual Meeting has taken place in the United States.

DESCRIPTION:As homes\, businesses\, and other properties evaluate and install energy storage systems (ESS)\, often paired with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems\, the Sustainable Energy Action Committee has decided to offer a series of workshops on safety and risk considerations associated with ESS permitting. \nThe series will include virtual events and in-person events\, beginning with an online workshop on Wednesday\, Aug. 16 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. \nAt the Aug. 16 workshop\, SEAC members and invited guests will provide an overview of ESS technology\, safety standards\, tests\, codes\, and common issues with permit applications and plan review. The sessions will include ample time for Q&A.
