DESCRIPTION:Historic changes to the 2021 International Building Code allow for construction of tall mass timber buildings with larger heights and areas than is currently permitted in Types III\, IV\, and V construction. Energy efficiency provisions for mass timber based on the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) will be discussed. Floor-ceiling and wall assemblies in the new mass timber construction types\, which will be subject to IBC sound transmission provisions\, will be shown. New IBC provisions for special inspection and concepts for lateral design of tall mass timber structures will be presented. SUMMARY:Residential Seismic Assessment and Retrofit Standard Consensus Committee (IS-RSARC)
DESCRIPTION:As an ANSI accredited standard developing organization\, ICC is undertaking a project coordinated with the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and FEMA to develop an ICC Standard for the seismic evaluation and retrofit of one and two family dwellings (including townhouses) designated as ICC 1300\, Standard for the Vulnerability-Based Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of One- and Two-Family Dwellings. \nThe development of the standard will be initiated with FEMA P-1100 as an initial draft. This committee will have primary responsibility for the development of minimum requirements to safeguard the public health\, safety\, general welfare by providing a methodology for the identification\, evaluation and retrofit of specific known vulnerabilities for one- and two-family wood light-frame dwellings up to 2 stories in height located in Seismic Design Categories B through E. This will include the use of the best available seismic numerical modeling tools and engineering practices to assist in development of assessment methods and to identify retrofit criteria to best achieve targeted performance objectives. Use of the provisions is anticipated to improve earthquake performance but is not necessarily intended to prevent earthquake damage. SUMMARY:Application Deadline for ICC Call for Committees
DESCRIPTION:The International Code Council invites you to consider two upcoming calls for committee members. The committees will develop two new ANSI/ICC standards that\, once published\, will be groundbreaking for the industry: \n1. The Sizing Water Distribution\, Drainage and Venting Standard Consensus Committee (IS-SWDDV) will be responsible for developing ICC 815-202X (Standard for Sizing Water Distribution\, Sanitary Drainage and Vent Piping Systems). This new international standard will take a holistic worldwide approach to sizing water distribution\, sanitary drainage\, and vent piping systems for residential\, mixed-use\, and institutional occupancies that utilizes a sizing method that has no basis on Hunter’s Method and accounts for post-COVID-19 usage patterns. \n2. The Private Sewage Disposal Systems Standard Consensus Committee (IS-PSDS) will be responsible for developing ICC 825-202X (Private Sewage Disposal Systems). This new international standard will provide minimum requirements for designing\, constructing\, operating\, and maintaining private sewage disposals systems based on newer technologies and methods\, and most importantly\, the impacts of climate change. \nWe hope you will consider lending your expertise to one or both. \nIf you are interested in participating\, please click here and fill out the application(s).
