SUMMARY:2022 Changes to AISC 341 and 360
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 editions of AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 360-22) and the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 341-22) represent the latest in structural steel design and construction. This presentation will cover the latest updates\, including the exciting addition of concrete-filled coupled composite plate shear walls to both standards. Other major additions to the Specification include clarification on what to include in structural design documents; a new appendix on filled high-strength composite members; and a major expansion of the appendix on structural design for fire conditions. The Seismic Provisions now include an appendix on nonlinear response history analysis. These and many more developments will be discussed to orient users on how to start incorporating these latest standards into their practice. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT

SUMMARY:PART 1: 2021 IEBC - Introduction and Prescriptive Path
DESCRIPTION:Part 1 of this course will provide an overall introduction to the layout of the IEBC as well as a discussion of its importance. The portions of the code that apply to all projects will be discussed. The IEBC provides multiple paths for compliance\, and Part 1 of this presentation will focus on the “Prescriptive“ path. \nPart 2 will focus on the “Work Area“ and “Performance“ paths of compliance. Examples will be provided for each. The last portion of the class will include example projects that will be looked at from a prescriptive\, work area\, and performance approach so that attendees will have a good feel for the limitations and benefits of each method. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT

SUMMARY:How Will Model Codes Need to Change to Promote Water Reuse (Learn Live)
DESCRIPTION:Today’s national model codes contain provisions that encourage the conservation of water through the administration of the codes but are limited in the content that promotes the reuse of water. This presentation addresses what water reuse provisions currently exist as well as what model code provisions will need to be modified to break down the barriers that exist in order to make codes a stronger promoter for the reuse of water. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Water Research and Technology Water Management\, Conservation\, and Efficiency (Learn Live)
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will cover research initiatives focused around the sustainable development of infrastructure with the primary objective of appropriate water management\, water efficiency\, conservation practices\, and their associated impacts. This presentation will focus on the following topics: The WISE tool\, which helps optimize water reuse strategies in water-scarce regions by offering adaptable and sustainable solutions. It takes into account environmental factors and socio-economic conditions to recommend the most suitable onsite wastewater treatment (OSWT) options that meet the specific needs of users. Water Reuse Applications and strategies\, as well as current roadblocks associated with these technologies. SUMMARY:Design of Data Centers using Precast\, Prestressed Concrete
DESCRIPTION:A data center is a building or a group of buildings that house computer systems\, telecommunications components\, storage systems and redundant power supplies. They support IT and network operations for business practices\, artificial intelligence\, artificial and augmented reality\, and the “cloud”. They may be defined by size\, function\, and operation as onsite\, edge\, colocation\, or hyperscale\, but they generally share the common characteristics of heavy content loads\, high energy consumption and mechanical cooling\, fire suppression\, high security and mission critical operation that cannot go out of service. \nThe largest proportion of data center buildings today are designed with precast\, prestressed concrete. Some are designed as total precast\, with precast concrete floors and roof framing carrying the heavy loads of computer racks\, uninterrupted power supplies and the miles of wiring and piping on strong materials that are inherently fire resistance or fire rated. Others are designed with steel framing with precast concrete walls providing durable insulated concrete walls panels as shear walls or simply as building enclosure cladding. \nThis webinar will cover the applications of precast concrete in these buildings. The precast concrete framing\, gravity and lateral systems\, components\, and connections will be reviewed as applied to both total precast and steel-framed buildings. Considerations for production and erection of precast as well as the essential coordination with mechanical\, electrical\, plumbing\, security\, and architectural installations will be discussed. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT

SUMMARY:GMC Webinar - Resiliency: Considerations Beyond Code Requirements
DESCRIPTION:Over the past several decades\, there has been a continuous increase in human and economic loss from disaster events. The rise in disasters and their consequences is related to a rise in people’s vulnerability\, induced by human development. However\, examples of resiliency planning and more stringent building code requirements still lag. This presentation offers a view on emerging risks and opportunities as human and economic losses from disasters increase\, with the overarching goal of supporting and advancing resilience in future construction of buildings and critical infrastructure. \nSpeaker: Ms. Rashid-Sumar \nRegister here. \n5:00 PM EST

SUMMARY:Tilt-Up Wall Design Provisions: Proper Application
DESCRIPTION:With over a half a billion square feet of space constructed annually\, tilt-up concrete construction is a common building type in engineering offices across the nation. This economical style of construction is uniquely identified by the very slender concrete walls cast horizontally and tilted into place. This web-seminar presentation revisits the historical development of the original slender wall design recommendations in the late 1970s\, and how the current slender wall design provisions in ACI match with concepts developed over 30 years ago. While these original concepts were based on empirical data from full-scale tests conducted in the early 1980s\, only within the last ten years have we really begun to fully understand the behavior of these thin concrete members when subjected to combined axial load and large horizontal forces. The intent of the current code provisions will be discussed\, some insight into their proper application will be provided\, and examples of misapplications and gray-areas will be highlighted. \nThe web seminar will also include three question-and-answer periods. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT

SUMMARY:Designing to Minimize Restraint to Shortening Cracks in Post-Tensioned Structures
DESCRIPTION:Two of the main financial benefits of post-tensioning is the reduction in slab thickness and rebar compared to non-prestressed slabs. The downside side of this reduction is post-tensioned structures can be more susceptible cracking\, especially if their inherent movement is prevented or restrained. The webinar will cover the structural layout and details that are primarily used in the post-tensioned structures to minimize restraint to shortening (RTS) cracks. Typical post-tensioning slip details will be explained in conjunction with construction photographs to highlight good and poor construction practices. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:30 PM PT

SUMMARY:Applications and Design for Horizonal Shear and Shear Friction in Concrete Structures
DESCRIPTION:In concrete members\, shear friction is considered for any interface between two concretes cast at different times\, between dissimilar materials\, as well as for any existing or potential crack. For composite concrete flexural members\, a shear interface is created when fresh concrete is placed against hardened concrete. Design for both shear friction and horizontal shear requires careful consideration for the transfer of forces across the interface. This webinar will discuss relevant provisions for the design of these interfaces in concrete structures. The discussion will also include an overview of changes from ACI 318-19 to ACI 318-25 along with requirements in the new ACI 319-25 for precast concrete structures. \nRegister here. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT
