SUMMARY:2024 ISPSC Design\, Installation and Inspection Principles (Online Live)
DESCRIPTION:This course will provide an overview of the key information in the 2024 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) as well as the technical information recommended for plan review and field inspections for Residential Swimming Pools and Spas/Hot Tubs for new construction and remodeling. Learners will explore the compliance of standard requirements for pool and spa equipment design\, installation\, functionality\, sanitation\, and disposal. The course will Identify the safety hazards that are often faced in the profession and how to avoid them and will provide detailed instructions on how to design a safe hydraulic system and identify the required documentation that must be submitted to a building department in order to obtain a pool permit and will also offer guidelines about how to recognize a safe hydraulic design as well as the required data and documentation that must be submitted in order to approve a residential pool permit. Detailed instructions are provided on how to design a safe\, hydraulic system and identify the required documentation that must be submitted to a building department in order to obtain a pool permit. This part will also indicate to Building Officials how to recognize a safe hydraulic design and the information that should be supplied in order to approve a commercial pool permit.

SUMMARY:Wind Load Provisions of ASCE 7-22
DESCRIPTION:ASCE 7-22 is adopted by the 2024 IBC\, which will be published later this year. The changes from ASCE 7-16 to ASCE 7-22 are so numerous and so substantive that learning about them needs to start now. The chapter on flood loads is the only chapter that has escaped any change. There are huge changes in snow load\, ice load\, and tsunami load provisions. There is a whole new chapter (32) on tornado loads. Risk Category III or IV structures located in the tornado-prone region shown in a figure are required to be designed and constructed to resist the greater of the tornado loads determined in accordance with Chapter 32 or the wind loads determined in accordance with Chapters 26 through 31. The changes in Chapters 11-23 on earthquake loads and Chapters 26-31 on wind loads are many and many of the seismic changes mark significant departures from past practice. ASCE 7-22 load combinations and importance factors are also quite different because of changes in the loads chapters.

SUMMARY:2024 IBC Essentials (Online Live)
DESCRIPTION:This class focuses on the basic concepts of the 2024 International Building Code (IBC). These concepts provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code. A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the IBC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make a judgment on code compliance. This class will also help the code user to correctly locate code requirements. It will also provide a basis for the correct use and application of the code as well as to begin to develop a procedure for applying them. It will address the organization of the code and how it relates to the IBC family of International Codes (I-Codes).

SUMMARY:Typical Repair Methods of Post-Tensioning Strands
DESCRIPTION:There is a myth that if a post-tensioning strand is broken\, it has the potential to fly out of the building\, create havoc and destruction as it soars over state lines and are almost impossible to repair. As most myths are\, this one is completely wrong. The majority of post-tensioned buildings will have a strand or two break during their lifetime and that rarely creates a financial or a performance issue. The webinar will cover the typical repair options and numerical solutions that are available to structural engineers when a post-tensioning strands is damaged. Construction photographs\, inspection reports and real building examples will highlight the various options that can and have been successfully used.

SUMMARY:Implementation of ASCE 7-22 Nonstructural Seismic Requirements for Today`s Complex Buildings
DESCRIPTION:With the publication of ASCE 7-22 and its future adoption by IBC and state building codes\, nonstructural seismic standard implementation is undergoing a dramatic change. Though the Chapter 13 requirements of the standard remain largely intact\, the methodology to calculate nonstructural seismic force and displacement is much more dependent on information about the seismic behavior of the building in which they are housed. This leaves many unanswered questions for engineers who are newly familiarizing themselves with ASCE 7-22 \nThis seminar seeks to answer many of those questions. It reviews the current nonstructural seismic standards in ASCE 7-16 and IBC 2021 and discusses proposed implementation methods for the changes in ASCE 7-22 and future IBC editions. The presentation will be useful to engineers and suppliers of components\, supports\, and attachments implementing and reviewing non-structural seismic designs.

SUMMARY:Updates to the 2022 AISC Specification (AISC 360) and the 2022 AISC Seismic Provisions (AISC 341)
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 editions of AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 360-22) and the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 341-22) represent the latest in structural steel design and construction. This presentation will cover the latest updates\, including the addition of concrete-filled composite plate shear walls to both standards. Other major additions to the Specification include clarification on what to include in structural design documents; a new appendix on filled high-strength composite members; and a major expansion of the appendix on structural design for fire conditions. The Seismic Provisions now include an appendix on nonlinear response history analysis. These and many more developments will be discussed to orient users on how to start incorporating these latest standards into their practice.

SUMMARY:Designing to Minimize Restraint to Shortening Cracks in Post-Tensioned Structures
DESCRIPTION:Two of the main financial benefits of post-tensioning is the reduction in slab thickness and rebar compared to non-prestressed slabs. The downside side of this reduction is post-tensioned structures can be more susceptible cracking\, especially if their inherent movement is prevented or restrained. The webinar will cover the structural layout and details that are primarily used in the post-tensioned structures to minimize restraint to shortening (RTS) cracks. Typical post-tensioning slip details will be explained in conjunction with construction photographs to highlight good and poor construction practices.
