Have you ever wondered if your building has an undetected irregularity and if there are code provisions that were not applied but should have been? This web seminar will put those fears to rest because the seminar thoroughly covers each type of horizontal and vertical irregularity defined in ASCE 7-10 and ASCE 7-16. The definitions are explained in detail with illustrations. The many code provisions that are triggered when a particular type of horizontal or vertical irregularity exists are next discussed in detail. The provisions range from 1) requiring that dynamic, rather than equivalent static, analysis be used as the basis of design to 2) requiring that structures with certain structural irregularities not be built beyond a certain height or not be built at all, if they are assigned to high seismic design categories to 3) setting redundancy factor equal to 1.3 because of an extreme torsional irregularity. The background to these requirements is provided, whenever practicable and reasons why buildings need to be penalized for structural irregularities are explained. Frequently asked questions and answers on the identification of structural irregularities and how they affect the design of the structure are also presented. The web seminar includes three question-and-answer periods.
