SUMMARY:OSHA #3015 Excavation\, Trenching and Soil Mechanics
DESCRIPTION:The HMCBA is proud to be a Host Site for select courses offered by the OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) at Volunteer State Community College (VSCC). \n\n\nThe goal of OTIEC courses is to reduce workplace fatalities and injuries by teaching the application of OSHA standards in hazard recognition and prevention. OSHA encourages all OTI Education Centers to establish host sites to provide additional training opportunities within their respective OSHA Region. \nRegister for the next course here. \nThis course covers the OSHA Excavation Standard and safety and health aspects of excavation and trenching. Course topics include practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations\, introduction of various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic)\, soil classification\, and use of protective systems. Testing methods are demonstrated and students participate in workshops in the use of instruments such as penetrometers\, torvane shears\, and engineering rods. Upon course completion students will have the ability to assess their employer’s compliance with the OSHA Excavation Standard\, utilize soil testing methods to classify soil types\, determine protective systems for excavation operations\, and training requirements. Minimum student contact hours: 20

SUMMARY:Webinar: Advancing Consensus Based Solutions to Clean Energy
DESCRIPTION:Join the International Code Council’s (ICC’s) Sustainability Membership Council and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) for an educational webinar about the work of the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC) and the Sustainability Membership Council. SEAC is a U.S Department of Energy funded program that provides a national forum to collaboratively identify and find solutions to issues that affect the installation and use of sustainable energy systems (solar PV\, energy storage\, electric vehicle charging infrastructure\, etc.) SEAC is led by a steering committee comprising some of the leading organizations working on renewable energy and related codes and standards. \nThis webinar will introduce the role SEAC plays in advancing consensus based solutions to clean energy. Speakers will focus on this year’s achievements from SEAC’s different working groups. The webinar will also highlight the program’s website—which houses a variety of resources on different current clean energy topics—and ICC’s involvement in SEAC. Finally\, the webinar will showcase the important work of the Sustainability Membership Council and how participants can get involved with sustainability initiatives at the local and national level. \nJoin here.  \nMeeting ID: 943 1788 2063\nPasscode: 458626
