SUMMARY:Hand Calculations and Detailing for a Post-Tensioned Podium Slab
DESCRIPTION:The webinar will focus on the hand calculations to design a post-tensioned structural two-way slab that supports multi levels of conventional wood or metal stud framed buildings. The specific detailing requirements specific to podium slabs will be addressed as well as the coordination and detailing of landscape elements that are often required to be supported by the post-tensioned slab. Construction photographs will highlight the interaction and potential congestion of the various components that are installed in the podium slabs.

SUMMARY:Fire Design Specification for Wood Construction (Learn Live)
DESCRIPTION:US model building codes recognize multiple construction types using mass timber. These code provisions stipulate\, among other fire safety requirements\, minimum fire-resistance ratings for building elements and fire protection of connections. Among the numerous means provided by building codes for establishing fire-resistance ratings\, the calculation approach is the primary focus of this course. The AWC National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS) and the AWC Fire Design Specification for Wood Construction (FDS) provide the necessary design guidance for establishing the fire-resistance rating of wood building elements using the calculation approach. In this course\, NDS and FDS provisions applicable to fire design of mass timber are presented. Examples of how these provisions can be used in design of wood members and connections are also given.

DESCRIPTION:This class focuses on the basic concepts of the 2024 International Building Code (IBC). These concepts provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code. A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the IBC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make a judgment on code compliance. This class will also help the code user to correctly locate code requirements. It will also provide a basis for the correct use and application of the code as well as to begin to develop a procedure for applying them. It will address the organization of the code and how it relates to the IBC family of International Codes (I-Codes).
