SUMMARY:2024 IBC Significant Structural Changes and ASCE 7-22 (Live Online)
DESCRIPTION:This full-day seminar reviews and analyzes selected significant structural changes from the 2021 to the 2024 edition of the International Building Code (IBC). The program identifies the specific code changes that have occurred along with the reasoning behind the changes. Topics include changes to provisions for walls (Chapter 14)\, roofs (Chapter 15)\, structural design (Chapter 16)\, special inspections (Chapter 17)\, soils/foundations (Chapter 18) and materials including concrete\, masonry\, steel\, wood and glass (Chapters 19-24). Updated provisions for temporary structures (Chapter 31) will be discussed. Changes to the IBC-referenced 2022 ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7-22) will also be presented. Environmental loads discussed include rain\, snow\, ice\, wind\, tornado\, earthquake\, tsunami and flood.

DESCRIPTION:Part 3 in this webinar series presents comprehensive information on how to determine and detail the required reinforcement for diaphragms and collectors in accordance with ACI 318-19 and ASCE/SEI 7-22 for buildings assigned to SDC A through F. Step-by-step methods are provided on the following types of reinforcement for two common types of construction: (1) chord reinforcement\, (2) diaphragm shear reinforcement\, (3) shear transfer reinforcement between the diaphragm and the vertical elements of the LFRS\, (4) shear transfer reinforcement between the diaphragm and collectors\, (5) anchorage reinforcement\, and (6) collector reinforcement. Guidelines and recommendations for economical detailing are provided along with a comprehensive summary of design and detailing requirements.

DESCRIPTION:Mid-career residential inspectors and plans examiners will find this seminar insightful as will designers looking for a review of new requirements for fire-resistance between dwelling and townhome units\, addition of solar panels and energy storage systems. The requirements for two-family dwelling and townhome fire-resistance have changed in some unusual ways in the 2024 IRC. The provisions are reviewed\, and consequences of the changes are discussed. Topics included stacked and semi-stacked two-family dwellings\, imaginary lot lines and staggered placement of townhomes. As energy storage systems and solar panels are added to existing and new homes\, requirements for their placement and safe use are added to the code. New requirements for storage new the dwelling or garage are added as well as minimum distance between stacks of the ESS.
