SUMMARY:2024 IBC Significant Structural Changes and ASCE 7-22 (Live Online)
DESCRIPTION:This full-day seminar reviews and analyzes selected significant structural changes from the 2021 to the 2024 edition of the International Building Code (IBC). The program identifies the specific code changes that have occurred along with the reasoning behind the changes. Topics include changes to provisions for walls (Chapter 14)\, roofs (Chapter 15)\, structural design (Chapter 16)\, special inspections (Chapter 17)\, soils/foundations (Chapter 18) and materials including concrete\, masonry\, steel\, wood and glass (Chapters 19-24). Updated provisions for temporary structures (Chapter 31) will be discussed. Changes to the IBC-referenced 2022 ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7-22) will also be presented. Environmental loads discussed include rain\, snow\, ice\, wind\, tornado\, earthquake\, tsunami and flood.

We will discuss the applicable process if one has a damaged existing structure or if one is undertaking a remodeling/alteration the correct process one should follow. Dialogue/Discussion is encouraged the definitions matter as to the concepts found within the code as do the exceptions\, as the misapplication of the code and its concepts can be costly if applied inappropriately. We will discuss the work area methods and scoping.

SUMMARY:Advanced Legal Aspects of Code Administration for Building Officials and Inspectors (Online Live)
DESCRIPTION:This course covers the terminology\, concepts\, and principles of legal issues that affect building officials and inspectors in the administration of their duties. It will assist the building official or inspector\, or persons interested in said discipline in understanding the legal concepts related to the model building codes. The course will address the specific legal issues that building officials and inspectors face in carrying out their duties and will focus on administrative issues such as the permit\, inspection\, plan review and appeal processes as well as enforcement issues including stop work orders\, notices of violation\, and complaints. Writing administrative search warrants and legal issues and liability specific to building officials and inspectors will also be covered.
