The 2020 edition of the ICC 500 is available for purchase at the ICC store.

The ICC 500 Committee for Storm Shelters has completed the final ballot for approval of the final draft of the the standard.  We appreciate the effort and commitment that the committee put forth to develop the 2020 edition.

The 2020 edition was Approved by ANSI as an American National Standard on November 2, 2020.

The committee has elected to place ICC 500 under continuous maintenance in order to keep the standard up to date with changing developments in the field.  Under a continuous maintenance schedule, the consensus body considers recommended changes to any part of the document.  The Code Council accepts public comments and proposals for this Standard on a continual basis and during regular calls for comment.  Comments and proposals submitted on ICC Public Comment and Proposal Forms may be submitted to the committee secretariat at kpaarlberg@iccsafe.org.

The Code Council is currently accepting applications for the IS-STM Standards Committee.

The Code Council is receiving applications for members to serve on this committee. In accordance with ICC’s Consensus Procedures, the committee will be a balanced committee of 12-15 members of the following Interest Categories: Manufacturer, Builder, Standards Promulgator / Testing Laboratory, User, Utility, Consumer, Public Segment, Government Regulator and Insurance. Accordingly, stakeholders including, but not limited to design professionals, manufacturers, constructors, building, fire and other government officials should apply. A full description of the Interest Categories is included in the application linked below. Any stakeholder is welcome to apply and ICC membership is not required. The ICC Board of Directors is the final authority for appointing committee members.  Click here for an application. The acronym below is to be used to identify the on the application.

IS-STM          The Consensus Committee On Storm Shelters

Meetings are to be held via teleconference calls. Travel is not anticipated due to travel restrictions however in the event of an in-person meeting, ICC Governmental Member Representatives are authorized to travel at ICC’s expense when participating at ICC Consensus Committee meetings. All others are responsible for funding their participation on this committee.

Term: Voluntarily continuous with periodic review.

The ICC adheres to openness and transparency in our Standards development process.  All ICC Standards committee meetings are open to the public.  Any interested party can participate in committee meetings and can be considered by the committee for membership on any work-group that the committee creates. Interested parties will be notified by email of standards activities related to, IS-STM including committee meetings, sub-group meetings and the availability of standard development documentation.  If you wish to be placed on the “interested parties” list for the development of this standard, contact the ICC Secretariat, IS-STM.
