Exam FAQs
You can purchase your exam directly from our Exam Catalog by clicking the “Register” button. You can also login to your myICC account and purchase the exam from there.
Proctored Remote Online Testing (PRONTO) is available 24/7, 365 days a year, in any secure location such as your home or office.
Computer-based Testing (CBT) is administered frequently at over 350 sites across the nation and outside the U.S. You can locate the testing availability and locations once you purchase the exam.

Test duration may vary from exam to exam. To find out your exam’s time limit, visit our Exam Catalog and locate your exam. On the right hand side of the page you’ll see a “Time Limit” section that details this information.

Many exams we offer are open book, however some are not. To find out if your exam is open book, visit our Exam Catalog and locate your exam. On the right-hand side of the page you’ll see an “Open book?” section that lets you know if your exam is open book.
It’s important to note that ICC does not provide chapters for study reference. Instead, our focus is helping identify the content on the exam. If you locate your exam in our Exam Catalog, we recommend looking at the “Outline” section. For studying purposes, you can use this information to help you better locate the parts of your references that are most helpful.
If your exam is open book you may bring in any bound, copywritten book. This material can be placed in a three-ring binder if needed, but it still must adhere to the copywrite rules. Any binder with tabs must have permanent tabs that do not come off easily.
While you are not allowed to write or mark in your reference materials during your exam, there will be other options available for taking notes.
- During a Computer-based testing exam, your proctor will give you a whiteboard and markers for use during the exam.
- During a PRONTO exam, there will be a virtual notepad option for you to be able to type notes during your exam. This global notepad will stay visible on the screen throughout your PRONTO exam so you can reference your typed notes.
As long as your exam is not preauthorized, exams may be taken six (6) times in six (6) months. We recommend looking at study materials and courses provided by our Learning Center.
