Mexico City Hosts Key Fire Safety Training and Collaboration Event with the Code Council, AMRACI and CONAPCI
Last year an official collaboration agreement was signed between the three organizations, marking Mexico’s formal alignment with the Code Council and its I-Codes and standards.
Mexico experiences more than 95,000 urban and non-urban fires annually. These fires are responsible for 31 percent of national disasters and nearly 27 percent of disaster-related deaths, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography.
Recognizing the severity of the issue, leaders from Mexican Association of Automatic Fire Sprinklers (AMRACI), the National Fire Protection Council (CONAPCI) and the International Code Council held a training and stakeholder engagement event in Mexico City from August 11-14, 2025, with a goal of strengthening fire prevention and fire safety across Mexico.

The Launch of National Fire Protection Efforts
The event brought together key government officials, industry leaders and safety advocates to address the urgent fire safety crisis facing the country.
The multi-day event included:
- A two-day in-person training seminar attended by code professionals, government officials and industry leaders which focused on the application of model codes with an emphasis on the International Fire Code® (IFC)
- Strategic meetings with the Federal Secretariat of Economy and other key stakeholders involved in Mexico’s code development
- Engagements with media outlets to promote fire safety awareness and upcoming initiatives
- Presentations and discussions surrounding the introduction of a Mexican National Fire Protection Code tailored to Mexico’s specific needs
Last year at the Expo Fire & Safety MX, an official collaboration agreement was signed between the three organizations, marking Mexico’s formal alignment with the Code Council and its International Codes® (I-Codes), including the IFC, and standards. This agreement represents a major advancement in the ongoing effort to modernize Mexico’s fire safety infrastructure, and with the implementation of updated codes and extensive training programs, stakeholders across the public and private sectors are working together to build a safer, more resilient Mexico.

Regional Director for Latin America & Caribbean, José G. Roig, who led the delegation, emphasized the importance of this milestone for both Mexico and the broader Latin American region.
“The Code Council provides best practices for fire protection that are adaptable to both residential and commercial settings—without incurring unnecessary costs. Our goal is to create safe, affordable and sustainable communities,” said Roig.
The collaboration will also extend beyond codes and include joint efforts in product evaluation, accreditation, training, certification and the sharing of new technology.
2025 Fire and Safety Expo
The Mexico City event also served as a platform to announce the eighth annual Fire & Safety Expo, Mexico and Latin America’s premier fire safety event. This year’s event will take place for the first time in Guadalajara, Jalisco, from October 27–29, 2025, at Expo Guadalajara.
This expo will serve as a platform for further discussions regarding the implementation of solutions to the growing threat of fire across Mexican states and sectors.
