Code Council Seminars Introduce Construction Professionals to Major 2012 I-Codes Changes

August 25th, 2011

  • Press Releases

Learn about the new I-Codes that reduce costs, facilitate new products and technologies

Every three years the International Codes published by the International Code Council are updated to improve safety and allow for new products and technologies. Changes to the 2012 International Building Code (IBC) include wind-load provisions, occupancy clarifications and removal of the requirement to measure a guard from the top of any adjacent fixed seating. Modifications in the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) include a simplified method for wall bracing, seismic design changes for concrete footings and several changes involving sprinklers. Revisions to the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) affect the thermal envelope, HVAC systems and electrical systems.

ICC will present a series of seminars to address 2012 I-Code changes customized to meet the needs of code officials, architects, engineers, contractors and builders. The 2012 Codes Update Training Seminars will introduce construction industry professionals to major changes in the 2012 I-Codes compared to the 2009 editions. Changes are clearly identified in course material handouts. Expert instructors discuss the reasoning for each modification and present knowledge review questions to ensure participants have a comprehensive understanding of the code changes. The 2012 I-Codes are expected to be available in May 2011.

The 2012 Codes Update Training Seminars address changes to the 2012 editions of the:

  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • International Residential Code (IRC)
  • International Fire Code (IFC)
  • International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
  • International Plumbing Code (IPC)
  • International Mechanical Code (IMC)
  • International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)
  • International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC)
  • International Existing Building Code (IEBC)

For details about the 2012 Codes Update Training Seminars visit www.iccsafe.org/training or call 1-888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233), ext. 33818.

The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states choose the International Codes, building safety codes developed by the International Code Council. The International Codes also serve as the basis for construction of federal properties around the world, and as a reference for many nations outside the United States.
