Code Council Stimulus Package Aimed at Attending Conference, Code Hearings on a Budget

July 9th, 2009
by International Code Council
  • Press Releases

The International Code Council is offering a stimulus package so members and other stakeholders can attend its Annual Conference and Code Development hearings on a tight budget. A nominal registration fee includes education—more than 15 seminars to choose from over two days with opportunities to earn CEUs and LUs—the Annual Banquet dinner, a welcome reception, six meals over four days and free Internet access in the Cyber Cafe. Members can save $65 when they enroll before Sept. 1; nonmembers save $60. Registering online saves delegates another $10.

The 2009 Code Council Annual Conference, Nov. 1–4, is sandwiched between the Code Development Hearingsthat run Oct. 24–31 and Nov. 4–11. The Conference and Code Hearings will be held at the Hilton Baltimore. To register and take advantage of the lowest pricing, visit www.iccsafe.org/conference.

Code Development Hearings

There is no charge to attend the 2009/2010 Code Development Hearings, which for the first time begin a single cycle of code development between the 2009 and 2012 editions of the International Codes. All proposed changes will be considered by the appropriate committee. Changes to the assembly action portion of the hearings provide greater opportunity for all Council members to vote, and impact on changes that will influence energy efficiency and public safety in their communities. The Code Council Board of Directors adopted changes to address Code Development as part of its ongoing process to update and revise procedures.

Education Program

More than 15 comprehensive, educational programs that offer CEUs and LUs will be taught during the Council’s Conference. A series of seminars examines major changes between the 2009 and 2006 codes, including the International Energy Conservation Code, which qualifies states for federal energy assistance grants when adopted and administered. Another session discusses the purpose, programs and opportunities provided by the building energy provisions of the stimulus act, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The intent and organization of the National Green Building Standard (ICC-700), including a realistic case study to apply the standard, and a presentation on the ICC-ES SAVE program and its relationship to sustainable construction also are among the offerings.

Certification

The Opening Session of the Annual Conference (Nov. 2) will feature a Candidates’ Debate for Board elections. The following morning, members will elect Board Officers and Directors during the Annual Business Meeting. A new bylaw will alter the composition of the Board to eight Directors-at-Large and six Sectional Directors.

Networking and Social Activities

Conference allows delegates to network professionally and socialize with peers and other experts. The popular Cracker Barrel, a roundtable luncheon discussion on several topics simultaneously, is on the schedule.

Expo showcases products and services. Attendees have opportunities to talk to vendors to learn more about products and attend the expo reception.

The International Accreditation Service will present an accreditation lead evaluator training program.

The Maryland Building Officials and the Chapters of ICC Region VII will host a hospitality event.

Events with additional costs include the 6th Annual Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride and the Annual Golf Tournament.

The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states choose the International Codes, building safety codes developed by the International Code Council.
