The Office of Public Safety and Inspections (OPSI) in Massachusetts announced that Daniel P. Walsh, CBO, has been brought onboard as the Manufactured Buildings Director & Code Development Manager. Walsh currently serves on the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Board of Managers, which advises ICC-ES on business matters and provides valuable insight to ICC-ES on public safety issues, allowing for a balanced decision-making process while providing evaluation reports on construction products with life-safety.

Walsh brings a wealth of building code, construction and technical knowledge to the position from his years as a building contractor and building code enforcement official. He served most recently as the building commissioner for the town of Lincoln and previously as commissioner for the town of Needham. A Certified Building Official, Walsh has earned building commissioner credentials from the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards and has almost 25 years of service as a building official between the towns of Needham and Lincoln. He was awarded the Outstanding Building Official of the Year in 2012 by his fellow Southeastern Massachusetts Building Officials Association professionals. In addition to this busy schedule, he also dedicates time to providing instruction to trainees seeking to attain a Massachusetts construction supervisor license.

As Manufactured Buildings Program Director, Walsh will perform plan review; receive and respond to materials related to the program; and communicate with program participants, municipal and state building inspectors, building owners, as well as design professionals and construction contractors to help  ensure that manufactured building products are installed in accordance with provisions of 780 CMR (the State Building Code) and related programmatic requirements. As Code Development Manager, he will assist with maintaining the currency of building code requirements and technical construction regulations; help determine the adequacy of new, innovative building construction products and methodologies; interface with public- and private-sector technical organizations; and develop and deliver code-related training.
