October 16th, 2008
by International Code Council
  • Press Releases

A new reference guide presents International Residential Code (IRC) basics and highlights the most important provisions in easily understood terms. An illustrated format makes the International Code Council and Delmar, Cengage Learning joint publication easy to read and understand.

Building and fire department personnel, inspectors, architects, engineers, builders, contractors and construction technology students will better understand the code with the support of Building Code Basics: Residential, Based on the 2006 International Residential Code. It is the first in a series of guides about I-Code basics.

“Building Code Basics: Residential, Based on the 2006 International Residential Code is a comprehensive publication that presents IRC technical provisions in a way that is compatible with the sequence of construction. It’s an easy-to-read, practical, focused approach to residential construction,” said Mark Johnson, Business and Product Development Senior Vice President for the International Code Council.

The four-color publication explains the basics of the IRC with many illustrations, graphics and photos. Requirements for plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and electrical systems and equipment are included.

“With most significant requirements of the IRC covered in detail and accompanied by images, this straightforward book successfully assists readers to gain confidence in their understanding of the International Residential Code,” said Greg Clayton, Vice President of the Professional Business Unit at Delmar, Cengage Learning.

Nationally known and respected author Stephen A. Van Note is a member of the senior technical staff of the Code Council. Prior to joining the Code Council, he was building official for Linn County, Iowa. He has 15 years of experience in code administration and enforcement and more than 20 years of experience in the construction field, including project planning and management for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. A certified building official and plans examiner, Van Note also holds certifications in five other categories.
