ICC, IAEI Announce Agreement to Improve Safety

July 10th, 2012
by International Code Council
  • Press Releases

Improving public safety through the use and proper installation of code compliant electrical products is the purpose of an agreement signed between the International Code Council (ICC) and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI). The two organizations share a common mission concerning the safety of the built environment and will advance shared goals, including code development related to electrical safety and a joint certification program.

The ICC and the IAEI have worked together for many years. The new memorandum of understanding significantly strengthens the relationship between the two professional organizations and furthers shared goals to improve public safety in the built environment. The MOU specifies activities and arrangements intended to jointly advance mutual interests to promote the development, application and enforcement of codes and standards concerning electrical safety.

“Electrical safety is a key component of the International Codes and is referenced through standards and the National Electrical Code,” said ICC CEO Rick Weiland. “We are pleased to be working with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and its members to further advance public safety.”

“The proliferation of energy sources underscores the need for vigilance, extensive training and development of safety standards, all of which are mandated in IAEI’s education programs,” said IAEI CEO David Clements. “This agreement will build upon an already strong relationship we have with ICC to enhance electrical safety in our communities and to be of mutual benefit to our membership bases.”

The International Association of Electrical Inspectors, as the keystone of the electrical industry, is a membership driven, non-profit association promoting electrical safety throughout the industry by providing premier education, certification of inspectors, advocacy, partnerships and expert leadership in Electrical Codes and Standards development. For information on IAEI, visit http://www.iaei.org.

The International Code Council is a member-focused association dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes.
