Building Innovation 2019 — the National Institute of Building Sciences’ (NIBS) seventh annual conference and expo — will be held Jan. 7–10, 2019, at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. This year’s event will bring together building and fire safety from across the industry to explore strategies aimed at Optimizing for Tomorrow. For the fourth year in a row, the International Code Council will hold a lead sponsorship role in the Building Innovation Conference series.

The Building Innovation 2019 conference program will present relevant topics over four days focused on high-performance, resilient buildings and communities. There are a wide range of opportunities for Code Council members to gain valuable insights from attending this collaborative conference and NIBS is offering ICC members a 10-percent discount on online registration with discount code 19BI4ICC until Dec. 31, 2018 (for extra savings, register before early-bird rates end on Oct. 31, 2018). Also, as an ICC Preferred Education Provider, NIBS is offering Code Council members a variety of educational opportunities to learn and earn.

During Building Innovation 2019, attendees can:

  • Hear about lessons learned from the disastrous 2017 hurricane season including how code adoption and enforcement impacted building performance.
  • Understand how code administration and development lead to resilient communities.
  • Gain insights into current considerations related to tall-wood, energy storage and roof-top solar.
  • Examine strategies for improving how buildings respond to wind and flood.
  • Explore the future of building enclosures for both new construction and the retrofit of post-modern buildings.
  • Hear about the latest approaches to avoiding water penetration through the building enclosure.
  • Learn how effective collaboration and commissioning facilitate optimization of the construction process.
  • Explore how emerging tools, such as virtual and augmented reality, machine learning and robots, are finding their way into the design and construction process.
  • Understand how performance metrics and data are driving informed decisions in the design, construction and management of buildings and cities.
  • Explore how effective information management and exchange improves performance across the life-cycle of a project and portfolio.
