The Code Council and ACI have a shared mission to support a safe, sustainable and resilient built environment and have collaborated on many fronts to help advance this initiative.

  • Quick Hits

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced that on August 10, 2023, Frederick H. Grubbe, MBA, CAE, will become their new Executive Vice President.

He will join the 148 staff members who have elevated ACI as the leading global authority for the development, dissemination and adoption of its consensus-based standards, technical resources and educational, training and certification programs.

Currently working as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA), Grubbe will succeed Ronald G. Burg, who will be retiring from ACI in August after 13 years of service.

“I am very excited to join the ACI team,” said Grubbe. “As one of the premier global authorities on all things concrete, ACI will continue to elevate the design, construction and most effective use of concrete worldwide.”

“Ron Burg, in concert with the Board of Directors, has provided superb leadership over the years to educate and enrich the knowledge base of individuals and organizations committed to concrete usage,” added Grubbe. “While I have some very big shoes to fill, I look forward to the challenge ahead and am anxious to get started.”

Collaborating to Support a Shared Mission

The International Code Council and ACI have a shared mission to support a safe, sustainable and resilient built environment and have collaborated on many fronts to help advance this initiative.

Several of ACI’s standards have incorporated information and best practices from the International Building Code® to achieve compatibility and improve code integration.

ACI has also worked with the Code Council’s Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) to collaborate efforts on issues related to carbon-neutral concrete. These efforts include supporting carbon-neutral concrete technologies, developing and advocating the adoption of codes and standards and development of Acceptance Criteria (AC) to promote the use of carbon-neutral concrete.

The Code Council looks forward to collaborating and working with Grubbe and thanks Burg for his years of dedication and service to the building safety community.
