ICC-ES Opens Next-Generation Testing Laboratory to Support Building Product Innovation

ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) has opened a new 65,000-square-foot testing laboratory in Elkhart, Indiana, expanding its capabilities to serve building product, plumbing and automotive manufacturers worldwide. 

The facility officially opened Aug. 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by International Code Council (ICC) Chief Executive Officer John Belcik, ICC Board President Mike Boso and ICC-ES Executive Vice President David Tompos. 

New Features  

The state-of-the-art laboratory features specialized testing environments, including a weathering laboratory, new materials laboratory, large-scale structural testing laboratory and benchtop fire laboratory. The facility also includes several advanced testing spaces designed to support the growing needs of the construction and manufacturing sectors. 

The new laboratory significantly expands the organization’s testing and evaluation capabilities while strengthening its ability to serve customers around the globe. The investment reinforces ICC-ES’ leadership role in building safety and innovation. 

Designed with employee well-being in mind, the facility includes modern workspaces, enhanced safety features and upgraded amenities. Bringing multiple testing disciplines together under one roof is expected to improve operational efficiency and encourage greater collaboration among teams. 

The new laboratory also supports ICC’s broader mission of advancing building safety, performance and sustainability. In addition to expanding testing services, the facility is expected to create 15 to 20 new jobs in the coming years, including positions for project managers, engineers and laboratory technicians.
