Code Council Teams Up with National Association of Home Builders and National Kitchen and Bath Association for “Design and Construction Week”

September 5th, 2013
by International Code Council
  • Press Releases

The substantial benefits of collaboration between the building safety and residential construction industries will be on display during the inaugural “Design and Construction Week” Feb. 4-6, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nev. The International Code Council is a supporting organization of the first-ever event that was created by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) to improve industry professionalism through education, networking and product knowledge. The event promises to be the largest-ever residential construction expo in the nation in 2014.

“While state and local governments continue to adopt contemporary and more efficient codes and standards, contractors, designers and manufacturers can be assured that the Code Council will help facilitate emerging technologies that will lead to a more robust marketplace,” explained ICC CEO Dominic Sims. “‘Design and Construction Week’ is an excellent opportunity for the Code Council to distribute information and solidify confidence in its programs and services, particularly product evaluations that are invaluable to manufacturers looking for greater market penetration.”

The ICC Evaluation Service performs technical evaluations of building products, components, methods and materials. The evaluation process culminates with the issuance of technical reports and listings that demonstrate to manufacturers, specifiers and code officials that products are code compliant and warrant regulatory approval. Sims also pointed to the emergence of online permitting and plan review software and the growing implementation of new “one stop shop” economic strategies as additional areas of focus and collaboration. “As the role of building safety and construction professionals continues to evolve, the Code Council is focusing on providing new technical programs, products and services that are responsive to their needs and tomorrow’s challenges,” Sims said.

Another primary goal of “Design and Construction Week” is to bring together the leading organizations in key segments of residential construction so ideas will flow and coalitions and alliances will be built. NAHB is a founding strategic partner of the Code Council while NKBA serves nearly 50,000 members as the premier association for kitchen and bath professionals.

“Partnering with NAHB, NKBA and other supporting organizations for ‘Design and Construction Week’ is an important first step in our joint efforts to build a stronger industry,” said Code Council Board of Directors President Ronald Piester, AIA. “This partnership will have a positive impact on ICC’s ability to deliver valuable benefits to our Members, and ultimately will help us to realize our mission of building safe, affordable and more resilient communities.”
