The International Code Council and Modular Building Institute (MBI) have joined forces to release a new Offsite Construction Credential of Learning Achievement (CLA) to help to bring much-needed consistency to the offsite construction sector.

The ICC/MBI Offsite Construction CLA provides both building safety professionals and manufacturer quality assurance personnel with an opportunity to learn and apply knowledge and skills on the different forms of offsite construction and how codes and standards apply to modular and other offsite projects.

The Surging Popularity and Advantages of Offsite Construction

Offsite construction has experienced a surge in popularity due to its numerous advantages that address the evolving needs of the construction industry and communities around the world. As communities struggle with the affordability and availability of housing and the construction industry at large is dealing with workforce availability, offsite construction offers a solution.

Offsite construction can take many forms and is regulated differently depending on the strategies and processes used. Increasing deployment of offsite construction requires a broad understanding of its forms and regulatory approaches. The Code Council and MBI have collaborated to develop ICC/MBI Standards 1200 and 1205 to help bring consistency to the offsite construction approvals process. They recently launched a campaign to support the adoption of the standards nationwide.

Improving consistency within the sector can help deliver much-needed housing and other building types through the production of high-quality and reliable structures. Ultimately, consistency will pave the way for sustainable growth, standardization and a more competitive and reputable offsite construction industry as a whole.

To receive the CLA individuals complete courses on ICC/MBI Standards 1200 and 1205 and complete an assessment on the Proctored Remote Online Testing Option (PRONTO) platform. In addition to the Offsite Construction CLA assessment, PRONTO offers over 100 exams, which are available 24/7.
