2020 Indiana Residential Code is now available
The International Code Council announced the availability of the 2020 Indiana Residential Code, which strengthens building provisions for safety, energy efficiency and resiliency in residential buildings throughout the state. Indiana’s action to update the code highlights its commitment to adopt up-to-date building and safety codes and implement them with a network of highly trained, dedicated code enforcement professionals.
The 2020 Indiana Residential Code is based on the 2018 International Residential Code, one of the 15 coordinated modern building safety codes, called the International Codes (I-Codes), developed by the International Code Council. The I-Codes, updated every three years to incorporate the latest technologies, are the most widely used and adopted set of building safety codes in the U.S. and around the world.
The Code Council also develops a number of supporting code references and standards that cover important topics such as accessibility, energy efficiency, solar, bleachers and grandstands, log structures, storm shelters, residential dwellings in high-wind regions, and green construction using an American National Standards Institute accredited process.
“The Indiana Association of Building Officials (IABO) is pleased that the new 2020 Indiana Residential Code books are now available for purchase through the ICC Store,” said IABO President Shad Paul. “The updated code has strengthened our industry partnerships and made available new educational opportunities for IABO and its members. We look forward to educating our colleagues about the safety advancements outlined by the 2020 Indiana Residential code.”
“Safety is the number one priority in our communities. Indiana officials recognized the need to provide its residents with the highest level of residential home construction safety possible,” said Code Council Vice President of Government Relations Corey M. Roblee. “The 2020 Indiana Residential Code will modernize and streamline building methods, ensuring that homes are built structurally safer, more resilient and energy-efficient. Homeowners and communities may also benefit from lower utility bills, insurance rates and disaster mitigation costs as a result of this update.”
Building officials and local government, industry and design professionals, and the general public may purchase print copy and download pdf versions of Indiana’s updated residential code through the Code Council store. Free digital viewing of the 2020 Indiana Residential Code is also available to the public via the Code Council Digital Code Library.
