CISA releases guidance on essential critical infrastructure workers during COVID-19

March 20th, 2020
by Karl Fippinger
  • Quick Hits

On March 19, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released an initial list of “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” to help inform community decision-making to determine critical functions that should continue normal operations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of interest to Code Council members and stakeholders, the list identifies:

  • Workers who ensure the continuity of building functions.
  • Workers who support the operation, inspection and maintenance of essential public works facilities and operations.
  • Service providers necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation and essential operation of residences.
  • Workers and managers in the construction trades — including plumbers, electricians and other members — who support the construction and maintenance of critical or strategic infrastructure.

The DHS/CISA memorandum and guidance can be viewed here.
