The Off-Site Modular Tiny Houses (IS-OSMTH) committee is actively progressing on the development of standard ICC 1215 Design, Construction, Inspection and Regulation of Small Residential Units (SRU) and Tiny Houses for Permanent Occupancy, which establishes minimum safety requirements for the built environment of tiny houses and SRUs with an anticipated completion date in Spring of 2026.
This effort follows the International Code Council’s Standard Development Consensus Procedures outlined in CP-12A.
Currently, the committee is reviewing comments received during the 30-day public comment window for the initial draft input, as specified in CP-12A Section 4.8.3.
The development process includes several key stages, as illustrated in the graphic below.
The upcoming First Public Draft (Draft #1) will be subject to a 45-day public comment period, in accordance with CP-12A Section 4.8.3.4 and ANSI Essential Requirements. Additional draft reviews may follow, depending on the committee’s evaluation and any substantive changes made during development.
