ICC 2014 Annual Conference Focuses on Training, Certification, Code Development

July 21st, 2014
by International Code Council
  • Press Releases

The International Code Council 2014 Annual Conference, Public Comment Hearings and Expo will include the final step to develop the 2015 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) along with training and certification test-taking for code and fire officials, inspectors, architects, structural engineers, contractors, builders and other professionals in the construction industry. The Conference, Hearings and Expo will be held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County (Fla.) Convention Center located at the Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port. Due to port security, attendees should be prepared to show a government photo ID or driver’s license at all checkpoints to enter the Convention Center.

Online registration discounts, www.iccsafe.org/ord, are available until Aug. 15. ICC non-members who purchase a full conference registration will receive a free, one-year “Building Safety Professional” ICC Membership.

ICC requires Primary Representatives must complete an online questionnaire by Sept. 1 for Governmental Member Voting Representatives (GMVR) to be eligible to vote at this year’s Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearings and Online Governmental Consensus Vote. If a GMVR was properly validated for the 2014 Online Assembly Floor Motion, the Primary Representative does not need to re-validate the GMVR for this year’s Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearings and Online Governmental Consensus Vote, unless there are updates or changes to be made. Primary Representatives can check GMVR status online at www.iccsafe.org/evds.

The Public Comment Hearings, Oct 1–5, are the first to completely develop a code using cdpACCESS, a cloud-based, online code development tool built exclusively for ICC’s code
development process. ICC Members and others interested in code development have submitted code change proposals, comments and voted using cdpACCESS.

The Conference, Sept. 28–30, includes featured keynote speakers, the ICC Annual Business Meeting, and the World Organization of Building Officials Board of Governors meeting and 30 thanniversary of its first conference.

Education sessions include:

  • 2015 International Building, Residential and Existing Building Codes Updates
  • Determining Substantial Improvements Under the Florida Building Code
  • 2014 Florida Building and Residential Code Updates
  • Advanced Fair Housing Act or the Seven Deadly Sins of the FHA
  • Legal Aspects of Code Enforcement and Administration
  • Perspectives on Tall Wood Buildings
  • Inspecting Solar Water Heating Systems
  • FEMA’s Presentation – 2015 Flood Codes, Standards, and Building Science Tools
  • Roadmap to Digital Adoption in a Hybrid (2D/BIM) Environment
  • 2012 International Building Code Flood Provisions
  • Paperless Plans Submittal, Review and Construction

Certification examinations will be administered on Oct. 1 and 2 twice a day. Candidates are strongly encouraged to pre-register to confirm seating availability. Walk-in testing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Attendees also can sign up for off-site learning tours of the International Hurricane Research Center at Florida International University, home of the 12-fan Wall of Wind, and the renovated Miami Dolphins’ stadium.

The Expo, Sept. 28–29, features manufacturers, trade associations, and other construction industry companies with products and services of interest to building safety and fire prevention professionals.
