New Guideline Now Available to Help Verify the Performance of Green Buildings

[INSERT F1–LEFT]The just-released ICC G4-2012 Guideline for Commissioning will help the building compliance and design communities successfully implement the building commissioning process in accordance with the 2012 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) and International Energy Conservation Code. The ICC Commissioning Guideline Committee, comprised of global industry leaders and technical experts, developed this new comprehensive tool and incorporated public comments received on a draft version last fall.

“Commissioning, or the verification of how a building performs once it is built and the certificate of occupancy is issued, ensures the design and performance of the building is being maintained and therefore achieving the sustainability goals our codes promote,” said ICC Executive Director of Sustainability Programs Dave Walls. “By clarifying the commissioning process, this guideline provides a level of consistency that will make building officials’ jobs of enforcement more straightforward.”

The guideline supports the adoption and application of the IgCC and its alternate compliance paths ASHRAE 189.1 and ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard, as well as regional green building codes such as CALGreen.
