Jerry Brown to Lead Code Council’s Global Communications Efforts

Areas of Expertise Include Corporate Social Responsibility, Marketing, Communications Strategy Development, and Driving Innovation

Jerry Brown has joined the International Code Council (ICC) to lead its global communications team. Brown has more than 20 years of public affairs, public relations, and international experience in the corporate, U.S. government and association sectors. His areas of expertise include corporate social responsibility, marketing, communications strategy development, issues management, crisis communications, litigation support, branding, shaping the regulatory environment and driving innovation.

Brown’s experience includes serving as a strategic communications consultant for Walls & Associates, a Washington, D.C. public relations firm.  He also consulted for CognoLink, focusing on the international media space, specifically best practices for international expansion, including international brand expansion and market entry strategies for non-profits. CognoLink is a United Kingdom-based research firm that connects investors and businesses to critical intelligence.

Brown has had considerable experience in the nonprofit community serving as Director of Strategic Communications for The Nature Conservancy, the world’s largest environmental organization, and the Society for Human Resource Management, where he served as Director of Public Affairs responsible for directing the public affairs, media relations, Speakers Bureau and external public relations campaign.

“We are excited to have Jerry join the ICC team,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “His knowledge and expertise will be instrumental in aligning our communications efforts with the organization’s strategic direction. Our goal is strengthening the Code Council’s brand in local, state, national and global markets, which will help raise the profile of all those involved in building safe and resilient communities.”

Brown has served at the federal level as Deputy Director of the Office of External Affairs at the U.S. Agency for International Development, where he managed the Press Relations, Publications, Public Inquiries, Public Liaison and International Development Communications divisions. He also served as Director of Public Affairs at the Federal Transit Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation and briefly headed Public Affairs at NASA.

Brown was Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Winrock International, Winthrop Rockefeller’s philanthropic organization.  Winrock conducts economic, environmental and agricultural development projects in the U.S. and 40 countries. He managed the organization’s national and international communications programs, press relations and served as chief spokesperson. Brown gained international recognition while serving as a public relations representative in Saudi Arabia to several private sector companies while working for a Saudi public relations agency.

He also has extensive experience in the private sector, working as an internal communications specialist for Exxon Company USA.
