Out of Cycle Changes to Material Properties

The International Code Council’s Code Development Process (cdp) includes updates to standards referenced in codes. Sometimes the changes are not synchronized with the cdp schedule. When this occurs, the ICC responds in two ways.

Group A, B and C Committee Responsibilities for the 2015-2017 Code Development Cycle

Group A Code Development Committees will consider code change proposals for Group A codes and part of Group B codes. Likewise Group B Code Development Committees will consider code change proposals for Group B codes and parts of Group A codes. In addition, the Administrative Code Development Committee will consider administrative updates for referenced standards for Groups A, B and C. The Group A, B and C Code Development Committee Responsibilities provides details regarding Code Development Committee responsibilities and information on referenced standards updates.

Code Development

Codes provide minimum safeguards for people with regard to building safety and fire prevention. Codes protect health, safety and welfare as they relate to the residential and commercial built environment. Access information on ICC’s family of codes, code development cycles, errata, committees, procedures and archives. Click here for more information.

Standard Development

Standards are developed as an extension of code requirements. Standards represent consensus on how a material, product or assembly is to be designed, manufactured, tested or installed to obtain a specific level of performance. Learn about Standards Development policy and procedures, and Standard Development and Consensus Committees. Click here for more information.

Guideline Development

ICC develops guidelines that contribute to the health, safety and welfare of the built environment by addressing issues that are not adequately covered by existing technical information. View information on ICC Guidelines and the Guideline Development process. Click here for more information.

Technical Committees

Learn about ICC committees and councils centered on the development of codes and standards. Learn about the scope, objectives and procedures for each committee. Access notices, agendas and minutes. ICC Code Development Review Ad-Hoc Committee

The ICC Code Development “Governmental Consensus” Process (CDP) is at the core of ICC’s mission. It is the responsibility of ICC’s Board of Directors, as specified in Article X of the association’s bylaws to ensure the ongoing health and confidence of the ICC CDP. It is for this reason the Board has formed a broad-based committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the CDP and make recommendations about any changes needed. Click here for details.
