State AdoptionsThe following building codes are listed in Texas state statute; however, building code adoption in Texas takes place at the local level. To obtain more detailed information on local building code adoption and amendments, please contact local jurisdictions directly. Starting June 7, 2021, Texas updated the state’s building requirements by adopting the 2012 International Building Code and International Residential Code as the mandatory municipal standards for commercial, multi-family, and residential construction. Effective July 1, 2024, all industrialized housing and buildings, modules, and modular components shall comply with the following codes, as amended in 70.101 of the IHB Rules:
