State AdoptionsRhode Island Building Code Standards Committee administers a statewide building-code — meaning the same base building, residential, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy, and maintenance codes apply throughout Rhode Island (not city-by-city). Rather than creating its own unique code, Rhode Island references model codes published by the International Code Council (and the National Fire Protection Association / National Electrical Code for fire/safety), combined with RI-specific amendments to address local needs.
